April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month

An Important Message from Dallas Hammit, Deputy Director for Transportation

There is a lot to be distracted by these days but, when you’re in the driver’s seat there’s only one thing you should focus on — safe driving!

Because April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, I wanted to point you toward ADOT’s “Distracted Drivers Terrify Me” campaign.

Part of the campaign has included the production of several short, creative public service announcements. The PSAs, which are being broadcast on more than 100 TV and radio stations around the state, each have a unique take on the serious subject of distracted driving. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to check out the videos and share them with your loved ones.

I also want to remind you that earlier this year, civil penalties for violations of Arizona’s hands-free law went into effect. It is illegal for drivers to talk or text on a device not engaged in hands-free mode on all roadways in Arizona.

Besides cell phones, there are many other distractions that can take a driver’s attention off the road. So, let’s all make a commitment to accept that there’s no safe way to multitask behind the wheel. Keep yourself and everybody else safe by choosing to focus on driving!
