Child Passenger Safety Week offers valuable reminder

An Important Message from Dallas Hammit, Deputy Director for Transportation

Knowing how to install and use a car seat correctly is one of the many valuable skills a parent must learn. Car seats and boosters help to protect babies, infants and young children in the event of a crash. Unfortunately, nearly half of all child safety seats are installed incorrectly, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Let’s all work to change that statistic. Sept. 19-25 is Child Passenger Safety Week, and it provides a great reminder for anyone with a youngster in their life to check those car seats and booster seats to make sure they’re installed properly. There are many great informational resources available, including details on ADOT’s own Focus on Driving site — I encourage you to visit the car seat safety web page to learn more. As always, please share this safety reminder with your friends and loved ones!
