Stay safe and healthy
An Important Message from Dallas Hammit, Deputy Director for Transportation
Right now, because of the COVID-19 crisis, we should all be paying attention to our physical and mental health. That means practicing good hygiene habits and social distancing, wearing a cloth face covering and staying home if you’re unwell in order to prevent the spread of disease.
Of course, it’s also important that we do not forget about our physical safety during this time. Whether you’re on the job, at home or on the road, remember to focus on the task in front of you to ensure you’re keeping safe.
The good news is that there are some really simple things you can do to protect yourself. There’s also plenty of helpful information on ADOT websites — I encourage you to check out our Focus on Driving site for safety tips and advice.
Today, I just want to highlight three safety concerns and point you toward some helpful resources.
- As we move into the hotter summer months, it is important to stay hydrated and keep an eye out for signs of heat illness.
- Seat belts save lives. No excuses — buckling up is the most effective and easiest thing to do to reduce the number of traffic fatalities and serious injuries that occur on our roadways.
- Monsoon season is on its way. Be sure you know what to do if you encounter a monsoon or dust storm while you’re on the road. You can learn safe driving tips and find information on our Focus on Driving site.
Remember, we want everyone to get safely home every day!
